April 17: Longest Home Run

Scripture Lesson: Luke 15:11-24

On this date in 1953, Yankee slugger Mickey Mantle blasted what was reported as a 565-foot home run off lefty Chuck Stobb in the Yankees 7-3 victory over Washington at windy Griffith Stadium. This was the longest home run in Mantle’s career and in Washington Senator history.

Today’s Scripture lesson is one of the most famous of all Jesus’ parables. The parable of the prodigal son is about a young man who demanded his inheritance early, took the money, and wasted it in wild living. When he found himself friendless and hungry, he recognized the error of his ways. The young man then made the longest “home run” in Scripture when he returned to his father’s house, asking only to become a servant. The father was looking for his son and when he returned, there was great joy in the house because what was lost was now found. The son was restored to his place in the family. When we ask for forgiveness and repent of our sins, God is waiting to welcome us back to Him!

 1. Describe a time you felt like the son in the parable.

 2. How was the feeling of being forgiven?

 3. Thank God today that He always wants His children to come home.

The prodigal son made the longest home run in Scripture when he ran home to his father. Let’s not let this day go by without returning totally to God, He is waiting!

Dear Debbie,Of course I pray for the iimssopble, all the time, my fears, my shortcomings, my loved ones, for health, for help, for forgiveness, for salvation, for suffering innocent children all over the world. I pray for good weather, even when the sky is gray and the rain is pouring,I pray for help through the darkest of nights when I cannot even see a strip of light. My experience has been; his there all the time. He is the shadow at my right hand.Till this day he has protected me, even against my own doings and wishes.I live WITHIN the psalm 139, and grace over grace; He has not kicked me out! From Felisol

wow great tip!I shluod add mine too! 1. we shluod be reading more on paul's epistles. because they are directed to us.2. understand that some letters are written not to us gentiles, but we can learn from these letters.one of the letters not written for us is the book of Hebrews. they were written to the Hebrews, but that doesn't mean we must not read it, rather we can read it as if we are reading someone elses letter and that we can learn from it. not to take it as if its directed to us.awesome tip. thanks for sharing with us!- grace and peace http://fnrjeegtva.com qaeivby [link=http://jugzgsari.com]jugzgsari[/link]
