April 8: Great Records

Scripture Lesson: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7

On this date in 1974, Braves outfielder Hank Aaron passed Babe Ruth as the all-time home run leader with his 715th career homer. Dodger lefthander Al Downing surrendered the dinger in Atlanta’s home opener. Aaron had equaled Ruth’s record a few days earlier, on opening day in Cincinnati. This is one of the greatest records in baseball history.

One of the greatest all-time records in history is the record of love found in 1 Corinthians 13. Commonly referred to as the “Love Chapter,” Paul wrote it to talk about the attributes of true love. If we want to have a life that is successful, we will love others with a love like Paul describes for us today. Our world would be a much better place to live if we loved one another with a love like Paul describes. Love is never meant to be selfish, it is meant to be selfless.

  1. List the attributes of love found in 1 Corinthians 13.

  2. How many of those are found in your life?

  3. What difference can you make by loving in the way Paul described in 1 Corinthians 13?

Today is the day to begin to love as the “Love Chapter” teaches. Then you can see the difference we can make in the world by loving others as described in your verses today.

Sharing your faith online is a great place to start. However I smmotiees wonder how impactful that is when the relationships aren't there with your readers. In real life, we go to where the people are and share with Christ with them, or we build relationships with friends and neighbors and share Christ with them. I don't think it's much different online. Readers are more likely to listen to you if they have some kind of relationship with you through your blog. And, just like going to where the people are in person, we can visit forums, other blogs, and other communities that are predominantly unreached. Get to know those people and offer them hope in Christ.Putting your faith on your blog is a GREAT idea! I just think if you are truly wanting to reach people online it may not be enough. If 96% people are not Christians then God may be asking us to do more than build a blog and hope they'll come.Just a thought.
