December 1-Giving for Others

Scripture Lesson: Proverbs 11:24

Today is the birthday of former Cincinnati Reds player George Foster. George was a vital member of the mid 70’s Big Red Machine. He was National League MVP in 1977 when he hit 52 HR’s, drove in 149 runs and hit .320. Foster got his chance to become a regular in May of 1975 when Pete Rose gave up left field and moved in to play third base. This one move solidified the Reds and paved the way for back to back World Series championships in 1975-76.

The writer of Proverbs reminds us today of gaining by giving. When we give freely we will gain even more. God’s blessings come on those who give freely to others. Sometimes in life we fail to give. Life becomes about us instead of being about making the world a better place to live. May we all today practice the art of giving to others with what God has blessed us to possess. When we do so, watch out…we can’t out give God!

1.      Why is it important to give to others?
2.      What can we lose by not giving and keeping for ourselves?
3.      Describe a time you were blessed by giving.

All-Star Pete Rose gave up his position to play one he had never played before in moving to third base. Yet he gained two World Series Championships. May we practice giving to others this day and everyday!
