December 3-Return
Scripture Lesson: Nehemiah 1:4-11
On this date in 1963 the Braves trade catcher Del Crandell and pitchers Bob Shaw and Bob Hendley to the Giants for outfielder Felipe Alou, catcher Ed Bailey, and southpaw Billy Hoeft. After 40 years, Alou will return to San Francisco to become the club’s manager.
Nehemiah has heard about the utter disrepair of Jerusalem. He wants to return to Jerusalem from exile and help rebuild the city. In today’s Scripture lesson Nehemiah is praying for favor with the king so he can return to Jerusalem. Nehemiah not only wants to rebuild the city of Jerusalem, but he also wants to return to rebuild the faith of the people.
1. What caused the exile in the first place?
2. Why was it important for the people to return to God?
3. How much can we do apart from God?
For us to be all we can be in this world, we need to be walking daily with God following Him. May we all draw closer to God by returning to Him!!
