January 12-We are Family

Scripture Lesson: 1 John 3:1

In the Hall of Fame election of 1988, Willie Stargell of the Pittsburgh Pirates was elected to the Hall. “Pops” Stargell was a lifelong Pirate and during his career he hit 475 HRs and drove in 1540 runs. The 1979 World Champion Pirates prided themselves as being family with Stargell as the “Pops”. The team was awarded by Stargell, stars for outstanding contributions to victory. The “Stargell Stars” were proudly displayed on their hats. The team even adopted as their theme song “We Are Family” by Sister Sledge. Their unity and hard work enabled them to become World Series champs in 1979.

John reminds us today that we are family, no not Pittsburgh Pirates, but part of a greater family…the family of God. God loves us so much that He calls us His children. As believers, we are indeed part of God’s family with everyone who believes in Him. Wow, what a blessing indeed to be a part of God’s family with believers all around the world! God’s family never gets crowded, there is room for everyone. One of the characteristics of John’s writings is he often writes about love. Isn’t it great to know God loves us so much that we are His children loved and cared for each day.

We are family with all those who believe in God as He is our Heavenly Father. So today let’s share His love!!
