July 11: Promotions
Scripture Lesson: Hebrews 10:19-25
On this date in 1976, in an effort to increase attendance at Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, 34 couples were married at home plate – along with a wrestling championship match – in a promotion billed as “Headlocks and Wedlocks.” The Braves went on to win the game, defeating the Mets 9-8.
In our Scripture lesson for today, the writer of Hebrews challenges believers to promote love and good deeds to one another even as we encourage one another. In living this way, we will be more about the business of God. Good and loving deeds may be as simple as holding the door for someone or smiling to a person we pass on the street. Random acts of kindness are great ways to show God’s love to others. We can encourage those who need it the most when we promote love and good deeds by serving them with random acts of kindness.
What are some random acts of kindness you can do today?
Why is it like Christ to serve others with kindness?
Pray for God to bring someone into your life today whom you can encourage.
It is a blessing to serve others and to know that when we do, we are doing the very same thing Jesus would be doing!
