June 1: Left for Dead

Scripture Lesson: Luke 24:28-35

On this date in 2005, after the Astros finished the first two months of the season with a 19-32 won-loss record, the Houston Chronicle printed an obituary for the team. The club, which was 14 games out, made a run to the World Series after winning the National League pennant as a wild card team.

After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to two people who were on their way back to their hometown of Emmaus. Jesus noticed that they were sad and asked why. The pair, who did not recognize Jesus, proceeded to tell Him about the events of the last few days, including His death on a cross. As they traveled along, Jesus began to teach them about the Scriptures concerning Him. As they approached the village they travelers invited Jesus to stay with them. At dinner, Jesus broke the bread, and they recognized Him just before He disappeared from their sight. The two men ran back to Jerusalem and told the disciples that it was true: Jesus had risen from the dead!

  1. What is the biggest comeback you have been a part of in a game?

  2. How do you think the two men felt when they recognized Jesus in their home?

  3. Why should we tell others about what Jesus has done for us?

The Astros were left for dead in the 2005 pennant race, but look what they did! Jesus died on a cross and was put in a tomb. The tomb is still empty today. Look at what God has done for us!

Its like you read my mind! You appear to know a
lot about this, like you wrote the book in it or something.
I think that you could do with a few pics to drive the message home a bit, but other than that, this is great
blog. A great read. I will definitely be back.
