June 22: Mission Accomplished

Scripture Lesson: Luke 24:50-53

On this date in 1993, in his last game as a professional baseball player, Carlton Fisk of the White Sox caught his 2,226th game to surpass Bob Boone as the All-Time leader in games caught. “Pudge” spent the first 11 years of his 24-year career with the Boston Red Sox. His goal was to set the mark of most games caught. Mission accomplished.

Luke gives us a glimpse into the ascension of Jesus into heaven. Jesus had come to this world to die for the sins of humanity. After his crucifixion, Jesus was raised from the dead and spent 40 days with the disciples before his triumphant return to heaven. Jesus blessed the believers and they worshipped Him. Without the resolve of the disciples and their commitment to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, there would be no church today. Not only did Jesus die and then rise from the dead, he prepared the disciples for the missionary activity that was ahead. Mission accomplished!

  1. What do you feel God wants you to accomplish for Him?

  2. What will it take to get the job accomplished?

  3. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being the best it can be, rate your walk with Christ today.

Until we graduate to heaven or Jesus returns, we are all commissioned to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the world around us. Look out daily for the missions Christ has for us to accomplish for Him.
