June 28: God’s Plans

Scripture Lesson: Psalm 40:4-5

On this date in 1907, Yankees catcher Branch Rickey was behind the plate when the Washington Senators stole 13 bases in one game. Although he was not a great player, Rickey went on to become one of the best administrators in the history of the game. Rickey was instrumental in bringing Jackie Robinson to the Major Leagues. And, when he was the General Manager of the Pirates in 1954, Rickey paid for the first two years’ existence of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

In today’s text, the Psalmist reminds us that we should put our trust in the Lord. God has done so many wonderful things for us and God has plans for us. It is great to know that the Creator of the universe cares enough about each of us to have a plan for our lives. It may not take us where we thought it would, but God’s plan for us is a perfect plan for our lives. When we make the Lord our trust, we will be willing to follow Him and His plan for our lives wherever He leads us!

  1. Where is God leading your life today?

  2. How does it make you feel that God has a plan for your life?

  3. What blessings have come to you by following the Lord and His plan for your life?

Branch Rickey never envisioned on that day when the Senators stole 13 bases, that he would become one of the greatest administrators ever in the history of baseball, paving the way for both Jackie Robinson and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He was blessed by trusting in the Lord and His plan for his life.
