March 14: Wholeheartedly

Scripture Lesson: Colossians 3:23

Today is the birthday of Kirby Puckett. The Twin’s center fielder, though small in stature, had a stellar 12-year career before it was cut short by eye problems. Puckett, a fan favorite, played the game wholeheartedly and with a lot of passion. He was an excellent all-around player who combined great defense with a potent bat. In March 2006, Puckett died of a stroke. Donald Fehr, Director of the Major League Baseball Players’ Association, remembered Puckett by saying, ”Kirby played the game with such passion and enthusiasm that he was beloved by players and fans throughout baseball.”

Paul told the Colossians: “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.” God expects us to give our best in everything we do, whether it is on or off the field. Everything we do in life should reflect our faith. Just imagine what your day would be like if Jesus was with you in everything you do. Would you not do your very best at everything, knowing He was watching? Paul would argue that Jesus is with us every day, watching everything we do: how we play, coach, and practice. He watches us in school and with our families. Believing that Jesus is with us, let’s glorify Him by how we live our lives!

  1. Why does Jesus deserve our very best in everything we do?

  2. What changes do we need to make to give Him our best/

  3. Thank Him for being with us everywhere we go.

Today and every day let us give Jesus our very best and serve Him wholeheartedly!
