Scripture Lesson: 1 Peter 1:8-9
Today is the birthday of former Bucky Dent who is best known for his home run that defeated the Boston Red Sox and gave the pennant to the New York Yankees. “When I hit the ball I knew I had it high enough to hit the wall. But there were shadows on the net behind the wall and I didn’t see the ball land there. I didn’t know I had hit a homer until I saw the umpire at first base signaling home run with his hand. I could not believe it!”
Peter is reminding us in our Scripture lesson today that we have not seen Jesus but we still love Him and even though we don’t see Him now we believe in Him. Our faith and love for Jesus fills us with a joy that we cannot fully understand or express. Our love and faith in Jesus brings salvation to our lives! It is hard to believe that our faith and love for Jesus can be such a powerful force and could bring such joy to our lives!
1. Is the joy of your faith evident in your life for all to see? Why or why not?
2. Describe what faith means to you.
3. Thank God today for his tremendous love and for His Son Jesus.
Sometimes it is hard to believe that God loved us enough to send His Son to die for us and our sins. I am sure glad God did just that!
