Scripture Lesson: Colossians 3:13

On this date in 2009, in Matt Holiday’s first at bat at home since his critical error allowed the Dodgers to stage an amazing comeback, the Cardinals’ left fielder receives a standing ovation from the sell-out crowd of 47,296 at Busch Stadium. The former NLCS MVP (Colorado, 2007) is touched by the fans’ reaction and is very appreciative of their support.

Paul reminds us and the church at Colosse today about the joy for forgiving others. Paul reminds us all today to forgive others as the Lord forgives us. When the Lord forgives, he forgives completely and the sin is wiped away as if it never existed. When we forgive we also need to forget and wipe the offense that has been done to us away. It is not easy to do that, but total forgiveness like that is the kind of forgiveness that frees us from carrying around those bad feelings! It frees us to get along with life without carrying around the burden of harsh feelings!

1. How does it feel to you to be forgiven by the Lord?

2. How does it feel to forgive others who have wronged you as the Lord forgives?

3. Is there anyone who you need to forgive today, the Lord’s way?

It must have felt great and freeing to be forgiven by the St. Louis fans like Matt Holiday was forgiven and loved. Nothing can compare to us forgiving others like Jesus has forgiven us!
