Scripture Lesson: Galatians 3:10-14

On this date in 1945 in an effort to promote his nearby Billy Goat Tavern, William Sianis buys tickets to Game 4 of the World Series for himself and his pet goat Murphy. The bar owner becomes so upset when a Wrigley Field usher asks his guest to leave, the Greek immigrant places a curse on the team to never win another World Series. Not only did the Cubs not win the 1945 World Series, as of today they have never appeared in another World Series.

Paul is writing to the Galatians about the curse we can never overcome. Paul writing to a predominately Jewish audience, wants them to realize that it is impossible to live under the Law. Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us by dying on Calvary’s tree. He paid the price for our sins, enabling us to live by faith believing in Him! It is faith that enables us to be righteous, not attempting to follow the Law.

1. Why is faith the key in following God?

2. Why do we fall short?

3. What did Jesus’ death do for us?

Jesus came to this world to take away for all who believe the curse of our sins. It does not matter how good we attempt to live our lives, if we do not profess faith in Jesus. The only way to heaven and eternal life is confessing our sins and believing in Christ’s atoning sacrifice for us all on the cross. The curse of our sins has been paid by Jesus who died for you and me!
