September 18-Courageous

Scripture Lesson: Deuteronomy 31:7-8

On this date in 2010 at Citi field, Luis Hernandez falls to the ground in obvious pain when he fouls a ball off his right foot. After a lengthy discussion, Hernandez dismisses the trainer to resume his at bat. The Mets second baseman hits a home run on the very next pitch, but severely limps around the bases due to the broken foot that will end his season.

These words today are Moses’ instructions to his successor in leading the children of Israel, Joshua. He tells Joshua to be strong and courageous. Moses reminds Joshua that God will be with Him and will never leave or forsake him. The same God who was with Moses and Joshua will be with us when He gives us a task to do for Him. God will never leave or forsake us as we serve Him with our daily lives. So we that reassurance we can live courageous lives of service for God.
