General Manager, So. Cal. Catch
Ben comes to FCA Baseball after spending the past 5 years with Missionary Athletes International, a non-profit Christian soccer ministry. At age 14 he worked his first soccer camp with the Seahorses, leading a group of 5-6 year olds. In 2001 while playing professional baseball, Ben founded the "Called Up Baseball Camp" allowing him to share his baseball skills and reach the surrounding baseball community with the gospel of Jesus Christ. After playing baseball at Biola University he signed a professional contract with the Chicago Cubs in 2001. After playing for the Boise Hawks (Short Season A) and the Daytona Cubs (High A) Ben was released from the organization. Ben pursued baseball for two more seasons playing for the Canton Coyotes (OH.), the Solono Stealheads (CA.), and the Gary Railcats (IN.) Ben retired from baseball in 2003.

CAL KERN
General Manager, Niagara Power
As a former professional soccer goalie, Cal Kern has always had a passion for athletics. He also has a long history with Fellowship of Christian Athletes. In 1993, he stumbled upon the unique dynamics of the organization at a ministry fair in Dallas. Shortly thereafter, he began an eight year staff position. After a several year hiatus to become involved with his family’s small business and Christian radio, he came back to FCA as the sport-specific baseball ministry chair in 2007. Now, he focuses on his hometown region of Buffalo, New York as the general manager of the Niagara Power, an FCA affiliated travelling baseball team that gives collegiate baseball players an opportunity to hone their game and their faith.
As a two-time All-American who landed the 5th overall pick in his professional soccer draft, Kern knows something about putting it all out on the field. He also is no stranger to the attribute of perseverance. A shattered kneecap ended his professional soccer career and Olympic tryout hopes shortly after he started, but Kern has shifted his energy to use earlier athletic experiences from the
sport of baseball. He thrives on sharing his Christian walk with his players while highlighting the faithfulness of God and the importance of walking the talk.
“I think living like Christ is the best thing. You need to be his ambassador, his billboard, and display a Christ-like attitude— not just with words, but with actions.”
Kern’s current ministry work includes reaching out to those who are a part of the Niagara Power baseball team and visiting local FCA huddles. His wife and best friend of 34 years, Sherrie, serves as an FCA administrative assistant for the Power.

Whatever you do, do it enthusiastically, as something done for the Lord and not for men. (– Colossians 3:23 HCSB)
