| July 21, 2008 - NBC Regional Tournament - The FCA Grays will start their push to the NBC World Series this upcoming weekend (July 25th - 28th). The Regional is a double elimination style format and will take place in Clarinda, Iowa. The Grays first game will be Friday, July 25th at 5:00pm against the Omaha Diamond Spirit. If the Grays win they will play at 8:00pm on Saturday verses Chillicothe, if the Grays loss they will play at 5:00pm. All regional games will be broadcast live on the internet by the voice of the Grays, Rick Cole of TeamSports.
July 10, 2008 - Schedule Change - Sunday's game at Blue Springs South High School verses the Kansas City A's has been moved up to 3:00pm. The Grays face the Clarinda A's tonight in Clarinda, the two teams will finish their 11-11 suspended ballgame at 6pm and play their regularly scheduled game after. July 6th, 2008 - Davis Drafted - The FCA Grays would like to congratulate Chris Davis. Chris was a catcher for the Grays during the 2006 summer and became the 13th Grays alum to sign a professional contract. Davis, a graduate of Central Arkansas, was drafted in the 35th round by the Arizona Diamondbacks.
July 2nd, 2008 - Game Cancelled - Today's game verses the Junction City Generals has been cancelled due to rain. There is no make-up date planned. The Grays return home on Saturday, July 5th for a doubleheader verses Beatrice at Kearney High School set for 4:05pm.
July 1st, 2008 - Shockey signed by Chico Outlaws - Ben Shockey out of Warner Southern University became the 12th Grays alum to sign a professional contract. Shockey was signed Monday night by the Chico Outlaws in the Golden Baseball League out of California. Ben spent the entire 2007 and part of the 2008 season with the Grays. During Shockey's time with the Grays, he accumulated a record of 5-4 in 17 total appearences, threw 3 complete games, and had 32 strikeouts in 63 total innings.

June 30, 2008 - Schedule Change - Today's (Monday, June 30th) game in Clarinda has been cancelled. The game will be rescheduled for Thursday, July 10th at 7:00pm. Before the game, starting at 6:00pm the two teams will finish their 11-11 suspended ballgame from June 4th. The Grays will return to action on Tuesday, July 1st verses Clarinda at William Jewell College, first pitch slated for 4:05pm.
June 26, 2008 - FCA Grays work Lee Summit North Baseball Camp - This week the FCA Grays worked at the Lee Summit North FCA Baseball Camp. They worked with the young athletes on base running, hitting, and position work. Not only did the Grays work on skills with the athletes but they also did a devotional time to help the athletes understand the importance of a balanced life. June 25, 2008 - Time Change - Today's game verses Beatrice has been moved back to 7:05pm at Hidden Valley Sports Complex instead of the originally scheduled time of 4:05pm at William Jewell College. June 17, 2008 - Schedule Change - Wedneday's game that was originally scheduled for 4:05pm at William Jewell College has been changed to Hidden Valley in Blue Springs, Missouri at 7:05pm.
June 12, 2008 - The Grays have rescheduled two games that where rained out earlier this week. The Chillicothe game that was originally scheduled for June 9th, has been rescheduled for Monday, July 7th, time and location are TBA. The Clarinda game that was originally scheduled for June 11th has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 26th in Clarinda at 7:00pm. The 11-11 tie game on June 4th in Clarinda that was called due to lightning will be picked up in the top of the 10th on July 15th after the regularly scheduled game is finished.
May 23, 2008 - FCA Summer Collegiate Baseball General Manager named as Head Baseball Coach at Ottawa University. Joe Reed, the General Manager of FCA's Summer Collegiate Baseball Ministry over the past 3 years has accepted the Head Baseball Coach position at Ottawa University for the start of the 2008-2009 academic year. Ottawa is a 4 year liberal arts college located just 30 minutes west of Kansas City and competes in the KCAC (Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference). Reed has thoroughly enjoyed his time at FCA and the transition will be somewhat bittersweet. He is looking forward to carrying the same philosophy and style of competition and ministry impact to the Ottawa Baseball program. May 22, 2008 - FCA Grays add an assistant coach and 7 more players to the 2008 Roster. The Grays welcome Andrew Noble as an assistant coach. Coach Noble is currently the assistant baseball coach at Greenville College (IL), a NCAA III college. His duties at Greeville include recruiting coordinator, hitting and infield coach, as well as JV head coach. He has also been an instructor at Ripken Baseball Academy. Coach Noble is a 2006 graduate of Cedarville University and is currently pursuing his master degree while at Greenville.
The Grays also add 7 players...Shelby Robertson, Jon Bourassa, Steven Martinez, Alcibiabes Gonzalez, Heath Groves, Jon Ubbenga, and Zach Williams. Robertson, a returning FCA Grays player from 2007, is currently a 6'3" sophomore right handed pitcher from Northeast Mississippi Community College and a recent signee of Millsaps College. He is a 2006 graduate of Ridgeland High School in Madison, MS.
Jon Bourassa is a 6'4" right handed pitcher currently attending Campbellsville University in Kentucky. He has played summer collegiate baseball before for the Okotoks Dawgs of the WMBL. He is a native of Prince George, British Columbia and Duchess Park Secondary School.
Steven Martinez is currently a sophomore right handed pitcher at Bethany University in California. He is a native of Modesto, CA where he is a 2006 graduate of Calvary Temple Christian High School. While at CTCHS, Martinez earned All-Conference and MVP honors during his junior and senior seasons.
Alcibiades Gonzalez is a hard throwing freshman right handed pitcher from Judson University in Illinois. He is a native of Veraguas, Panama.
Heath Groves is also another right handed pitcher from Judson University in Illinois. He is currently a sophomore and a transfer from Olivet Nazarene University. During his senior year at North Central High School, Groves obtained All-Conference, All-County, All-Area honors while compiling a 10-2 overall record in 2006 which led the state of Indiana in wins that season.
Jon Ubbenga is currently a middle infielder and junior at William Jewell College (MO). While at WJC in 2008, Ubbenga received HAAC Honorable mention honors as a shortstop, was honored as a 2008 Rawlings NAIA HAAC and Region 5 Gold Glove Team, and led the team with 53 RBI's. In 2006 and 2007, he earned a spot on the Ban Johnson Summer Collegiate League All-Star teams, as well as was a member of the 2006-2007 HAAC Championship Team (WJC).
Zach Williams is currently a sophomore outfielder from Heartland Community College in Illinois. Prior to attending HCC, Williams attended and played for Olivet Nazarene University. He is a 2006 graduate of Normal West High School in Normal, IL. He has also played summer collegiate baseball with the Lexington Snipes. Williams is currently being scouted by several MLB teams.
May 6, 2008 - The FCA Grays announce new coaching staff for the 2008 summer season!!! The FCA Grays add Richard Reichle, Jake McKinley, and Jesus Castro along with Matt Carpenter as our coaching staff this summer.
The Grays add Jake McKinley as Assistant Coach...Bio: Coach McKinley has a mix of college, summer collegiate, and professional experience both as a player and a coach. He is a 2006 graduate of Bethany University (CA) with a degree in Communication Studies. He is currently an assistant baseball coach at Campbellsville University (KY) and is pursuing his Masters in Social Sciences. At Campbellsville, he is responsible for outfielders, hitters, and recruiting on the West Coast. Campbellsville has been ranked in the top 25 (NAIA) in 2008 and finished #11 NAIA in 2007. Prior to coaching at Campbellsville, McKinley was an assistant coach at his alma mater where he was the pitching coach, hitting instructor, and outfielders coach while also performing as recruiting coordinator. During his time at Bethany, the college finished with a 31-20 record in 2006-2007, which was the most wins in school history. His other coaching experience was as a private baseball instructor and assistant baseball coach at All-Star Academy (CA). While there, he helped lead the 16U team to #9 national ranking. He currently holds a 51-35 collegiate level coaching record. As a player, Coach McKinley began in 2000 at Union Mine HS (El Dorado, CA) as a RHP/OF where he compiled a career record 12-5 and a 2.80 ERA with a .366 BA. He was also named as a 2-time All-Conference selection and led the Golden Empire League in homeruns in 2002 and, as a pitcher, recorded the most strikeouts in the Golden Empire League in 2001. He then went to Cabrillo Community College (Aptos, CA) in 2004 and earned All-Conference and Pitcher of the Year honors. He also lead the team in wins (8-6), 2.80 ERA, 98 innings pitched, 68 strikeouts, and WHIP. After Cabrillo CC, he went to Bethany University (Scotts Valley, CA) and earned 3-time Pitcher of the Year honors and team MVP in 2005. He is currently the all-time pitching leader in strikeouts, most innings pitched, most appearances, best K:BB ratio, and shutouts. He also earned most stolen bases in a game, 2nd in doubles, most RBI's in a game, and 3rd all-time in HR. As a summer collegiate player, McKinley was selected one of only two NAIA players to play for the Yuba-Sutter Gold Sox (CA) where he held a record of 3-2, 2.36 ERA, better than 4:1 K:BB ratio. After his stint with Yuba-Sutter, he played professionally for the Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League in 2006-2007 where the team won the League Championship in 2007.
The Grays also add Assistant Coach - Matt Carpenter...Bio: Coach Carpenter has an deep passion for baseball and a heart for coaching high school and college players. He is currently the Athletics Director and Head Baseball Coach at Plaza Heights Christian Academy HS (Blue Springs, MO). As a head coach at the high school level, and as a private baseball instructor, he has a deep background in all facets of the game where he has worked with several high school and collegiate players. His strengths are in the areas of Infield/Outfield and in hitting. In addition to his responsibilities at Plaza Heights, Coach Carpenter earned a B.S. degree in Political Science with a minor in History from the University of Central Missouri in 2007. He is married with 2 kids and currently resides in Blue Springs, MO.
The Grays also add Assistant Coach - Jesus Castro...Bio: A 2-time All-American and 3-time All-CCAC 1st team selection, Coach Castro is currently in his 1st coaching season at his alma mater, Judson University (IL). As a player, Castro ended his collegiate career at Judson's all-time leader in doubles (44) and triples (11). He is 2nd all-time in Judson history with 152 hits and runs scored (79), and 3rd in RBI (77), batting average (.375), and at-bats (405). He was also selected as a 3-time NAIA All-Region and NCCAA All-Region performer. Prior to Judson, Castro attended Florida Memorial College where he garnered "Rookie of the Year" honors with batting .316. He was also named "Mr. Hustle" while attending American Senior HS in 2003. He is a native of Hialeah, FL.
April 16, 2008- Injury affects 2008 Grays opening day roster. The FCA Grays announce the unfortunate release of JB Jenkins, freshman middle infielder from Furman University. Jenkins has sustained a season ending injury and will not be able to play baseball this summer. Jenkins has been offered a 2009 summer season contract with the Grays and intends on returning then. All of us at FCA Grays wish Jenkins a speedy recovery.
April 15, 2008 - Grays add lefthanded pitcher to the 2008 roster. Chad Culpepper, a freshman lefthanded pitcher from Evangel University (Springfield, MO), has signed to pitch for the FCA Grays this summer. Culpepper is graduate of Harrisonville High School (MO), where he earned 1st Team All-Conference, 2nd Team All-District, and Cass County Athlete of the Year.
April 8, 2008 - The FCA Grays announce the signing of (2) players for the 2008 summer season. The Grays ink Zach Hile (RHP) and Shane Hopkins (RHP/utility) to summer contracts. Zach Hile is a junior right handed pitcher from Webber International University (FL). Prior to transferring to WIU, Hile pitched at Sinclair Community College (OH) where he earned 1st Team OCCAC honors in 2007. Hile is a native of Tipp City, OH and is a graduate of Tippecanoe High School.
Shane Hopkins is currently a sophomore thirdbaseman, righthanded pitcher, and catcher at Howard College (TX). Prior to transferring to Howard, Hopkins played at Northwood University (TX) in 2006-2007. Hopkins played summer collegiate baseball in 2007 for Xenia (OH) Cyclist, Athletes in Action Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Team. The left handed hitting and right handed throwing utility player, Hopkins garnered 1st team All-State honors as a middle infielder and pitcher in both his junior and senior seasons at Southwest Christian Prep High School in Aledo, TX.
March 27, 2008 - Right-handed pitcher, assistant coach, and sports information intern added to 2008 FCA Grays. Joe Elowitz (RHP) has been added to the Grays pitching staff. The 6'8" Elowitz is currently a junior at #10 ranked Wayland Baptist University (NAIA) in Plainview, TX. Prior to WBU, Elowitz attended Sulross State University (TX) and is a graduate of Elkins High School. His previous summer collegiate experience was with the Saints of the Stan Musial League. He is from the hometown of Missouri City, TX.
The Grays announce the addition of Matt Carpenter to the 2008 coaching staff. Carpenter will serve as an assistant coach and will instruct infield, outfield, and hitting. He is a native of the Kansas City area, hailing from Blue Springs, MO (suburb of KC) and is currently the Director of Athletics and Head Baseball Coach at Plaza Heights Christian Academy High School. Carpenter is a graduate of the University of Cental Missouri, a nationally recognized NCAA Division II powerhouse.
The 2008 FCA Grays Sports Information Intern is Michael Sarne. Sarne is a junior Sport Management and Business Administration student at Southwest Minnesota State University. He is also co-owner of an internet-based rental company that specializes in locating and providing campus communities rental properties (www.MyCampusRental.com). Previous experience has been with Comcast Business Services as a marketing intern and with JRK Turf Supply. Sarne will serve the team in the areas of stats, press releases, web maintenance, game day programs, and player/coach highlights as well as maintain contact with college coaches and sports information staff on the progress of each player and coach on the 2008 Grays Roster. ___________________________________________________________

February 20, 2008 - Grays add (4) to summer roster. The FCA Grays sign Trey Karlen, John Little, Matt Horton, and Stu Schlemeyer to 2008 summer collegiate league contracts.
Karlen is a sophomore middle infielder/thirdbaseman from Texas A&M - Kingsville. He is also a returning player to the FCA Summer Collegiate Baseball Ministry as he was the starting thirdbaseman for our Affiliate, the Niagara Power, of the NYCBL last summer. A native of Rowlett, TX, Karlen earned All-District honors all four years while attending North Garland High School.
Little is currently a sophomore right handed pitcher at Wheaton College (IL). While at Wheaton, the 6'5" righty ranked second in mound appearances during his freshman year. His hometown is West Palm Beach, FL and he is a graduate of The King's Academy High School.
Horton is a switch hitting freshman outfielder from Heartland Community College and is a teammate of Zach Williams, another 2008 FCA Grays player. He is a 2 time SLABA (St. Louis Amateur Baseball Association) All-Star while he attended Christian Brothers College High School (MO). Horton also represented the best from the St. Louis area by participating in Perfect Game Midwest Showcase, the Missouri Sunbelt Showcase, the TPX Louisville Slugger Top 96, and the Missouri State Top Prospect Showcase. His hometown is Eureka, MO.
Schlemeyer is currently a junior outfielder/infielder at William Jewell College (MO). He is a returning FCA Grays player from 2007. Prior to attending William Jewell, Schlemeyer was a standout player at Seward County Community College (KS). He also played for the Duncanville Deputies in the Texas Collegiate League in 2006 while also leading SCCC with a .355 batting average his sophomore season. He is from Colorado Springs, CO and a graduate of Colorado Springs Christian High School.
January 25, 2008 - The FCA Grays ink a righthanded pitcher/outfielder and contract an athletic training intern for our upcoming 2008 summer season.
Josh Weaver (RHP/OF) is currently a sophomore at Wheaton College (IL) and is a teammate of 2008 FCA Grays infielder, Brian Kolb. Kolb and Weaver both played with Athletes in Action's Xenia Cyclists of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League in 2007. Weaver possesses above average power and has a live arm from both the outfield and the mound. A native of Franklin Park, IL, he is graduate of East Leyden High School where he ranked in the top 100 high school players in Illinois. He is currently 3rd on the all-time list at Wheaton for the most hit by pitches and led the Wheaton Thunder team in home runs during his freshman campaign while appearing in 32 games. He is a history and secondary education major.
The FCA Grays also add Amanda Almand to our sportsmedicine staff as an athletic training intern. Almand is currently a sophomore athletic training student at the University of Alabama. Her experience in athletics include working with the University of Alabama Athletics teams, and specializing in wound care, taping, flexibility programs and rehabilitative services. She is currently certified in CPR and 1st Aid. She also serves on the college ministry leadership team at her church and leads a small group Bible study for freshman girls on campus. Almand calls Tuscaloosa, AL as her hometown. January 15, 2008 - Transactions: FCA Grays add 4 more players to the 2008 Summer Season. Dave Hardt, Chris Lucius, Bryant Palmerton, and Landis Wilson all sign contracts with FCA Grays Summer Collegiate Baseball to play in the M.I.N.K. League during the 2008 season.
Hardt is currently a junior catcher that throws right and bats left from Trinity International University (TIU) in Deerfield, IL. Hardt is a 2005 graduate of Maine West High School out of Des Plaines, IL. Hardt was honored with 1st team All-Conference and 1st team All-Region accolades during the 2006-2007 school year at TIU and was named Team MVP and All-Area performer while attending Maine West High School.
Lucius is another returning FCA Grays player from the 2007 Summer Season. He is a catcher and outfielder with excellent speed and strong arm. Lucius is currently a sophomore attending Northeast Mississippi Community College under the direction of Head Coach Kent Farris in Booneville, MS. He was a 3 time Mississippi State Champion, 2005 All-State, MVP, and Player of the Year while at Mooreville High School (MS).
Palmerton is in his junior campaign at Millsaps College (MS) as a firstbaseman and outfielder. Palmerton hit .400 during his sophomore season at Millsaps. He is from highly ranked Second Baptist High School out of Houston, TX. A note of interest is that he is a friend of 2007 FCA Grays outfielder/middle infielder Stu Schlemeyer.
Wilson is a sophomore catcher currently attending Pitt Community College (NC) and is also a returning player for FCA Summer Collegiate Baseball as he was the starting catcher for our other team in the NYCBL, the Niagara Power. He was a transfer from Coastal Carolina University prior to attending Pitt CC and was also named to the North Carolina All-State Team in 2005. His other honors include 2005 Class 4A North Carolina High School State Champions, 2005 North Carolina American Legion State Champions, and selected for the 2005 North Carolina East/West All-Star Game. He is from Grimeland, NC and DH Conley High School and is a friend of 2008 FCA Grays thirdbaseman, Tanner Biagini (VMI).
December 28, 2007 - Transactions: FCA Grays sign 3 for it's first recruiting class of the 2008 summer season. Tanner Biagini, Brian Kolb, and JB Jenkins ink contracts with FCA Grays.
Biagini is a 6'2", 205 pound sophomore thirdbaseman from Virginia Military Institute (VMI). His hometown is Grimesland, NC. He is a 2006 48th Round Draft Selection by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was a member of the North Carolina State High School Championship Team as well as the North Carolina State American Legion Championship Team. Tanner received the "Cameron Award" to attend VMI after turning down an appointment to West Point. Biagini also played summer collegiate baseball in the Coastal Plains League in 2006. In addition, Biagini was named All-Conference, All-State, and All-Area in North Carolina in 2006 by the sportswriters association.
Kolb is a sophomore middle infielder from Wheaton College (IL). During the summer of 2007, Kolb was selected to the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League All-Star Game as a member of the Xenia Athletes In Action team. He led AIA in batting average during that season. While at Wheaton in 2006-2007, Kolb was named to the 1st Team All-CCIW and 3rd Team All-Region. He is from Sante Fe Christian High School and native of Carlsbad, CA.
JB Jenkins is a freshman middle infielder from Furman University (SC). His hometown is Germantown, TN just outside of Memphis. He is a graduate of Evangelical Christian School (ECS) in Memphis and earned All-City and All-Region honor. Jenkins was also named "Best of Preps" while attending ECS. During high school, he also played for the nationally ranked powerhouse Dulin Dodgers out of Memphis, TN.
December 27, 2007 - Congratulations to Chris Tate (FCA Grays - 2006) on signing a professional contract with the Evansville Otters of the Frontier League. Tate was an outfielder for FCA and a graduate of North Greenville College (SC).
August 7, 2007 - Congratulations to the 2007 FCA Grays on placing 3rd in the NBC Central USA Regional Baseball Tournament!!! After starting the tournament as a 5th seed, the Grays ended up missing going to the NBC World Series by one run, losing both games in the double elimination brackets to Clarinda A's by one run each game. The 2007 FCA Grays finished further than any other Grays team in our short history and finished the 2nd half of the summer with a 17-5 record and an overall record for the season at 20-24.
July 19, 2007 - Another former 2006 FCA Grays player signed with an Independent Professional Baseball Team back in June 2007. Josiah Jones (1B/DH, East Texas Baptist University) signed to play with the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League. This signing now brings the total number of FCA Grays players to be drafted or sign professionally to ten (10) in the last 3 years.
July 17, 2007 - Former 2006 FCA Grays middle infielder inks professional contract on July 13, 2007 with San Angelo Colts of the United Independent Baseball League. Jason Diaz, middle infielder from Texas Wesleyan University (Ft. Worth), has signed to play professionally for San Angelo bringing the total number of former FCA Grays players to either be drafted or sign professional contracts to nine (9) in the past 3 years. Congratulations go out to each player.
June 20, 2007 - Former 2006 FCA Grays right handed hurler lands with Frontier League Independent Professional Baseball. Brad Hinkle (Spring Arbor University) has agreed to contract with the Kalamazoo Kings (MI) of the Frontier League. With this signing, it brings the total of former FCA Summer Collegiate Baseball players to either be drafted or sign pro contracts to eight (8) within the past 3 years.
June 12, 2007 - Four (4) Former FCA Grays Players drafted in 2007 MLB Amateur Draft!!!
2B/OF Russell Dixon (2005 Grays) from Auburn University was drafted in the 7th round by the Houston Astros. RHP Tremayne Holland (2006 Grays) from Brewton-Parker College was taken in the 20th round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. RHP Steven Porlier (2005 Grays) from the University of Oklahoma was drafted in the 21st round by the Oakland Athletics. RHP Taylor Cameron (2005 Grays) was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 31st round. Also receiving a professional contract is LHP Kenny Salyer (2006 Grays) with the Anderson Joe's of the South Independent Pro League.
June 6, 2007- The Grays bounce back from last night's loss with a solid win over talented MINK League opponent Clarinda A's by a score of 16-8. LHP Chris Kuenzle came on for relief in the 5th inning and picked up his first win of the season. The Grays next game is at home on Friday against the Wichita Wheat Kings (10-0) at Kearney High School - 7:05pm start.
June 5, 2007- The Grays drop home opener against MINK League opponent Topeka Golden Giants by a score of 8-5. Ryan Biermann (RHP) started for the Grays and pitched 6 strong innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits. The Grays left 12 on base and came up short tonight. The Grays travel to MINK League team, Clarinda A's (IA) tomorrow for a 7:00pm start. An archived broadcast will be available of tonight's game by following the link "FCA Grays-Live" on this website.
June 5, 2007- The FCA Grays open season with a 2-1 record this past weekend vs. Ozark Generals. The FCA Grays were rained out on Saturday and ended up having to play 3 games on Sunday. The FCA Grays won the first game (4-0) on solid pitching from Ben Shockey, giving him the Grays' first victory of the 2007 season and behind timely hitting from the offense. The second game went to the Generals (11-5). In the rubber game, the Grays held on to win (6-5), with Brannon Walls picking up his first win and with Alex Kent picking up his first save on the season.

May 16, 2007 - The FCA Grays announce scheduling changes to the 2007 Summer Schedule. On June 2 vs. Ozark Generals, game time has been changed to start at 3:00pm. Games on June 13 vs Chillicothe and June 19 vs. Topeka will be held at Blue Springs South High School at 4:05pm both dates.

| Where it all began!
In 2005, FCA launched it's first summer collegiate baseball team, the FCA Grays! This team is made up of some of the top college baseball players in the country who want to develop their baseball skills and grow in their faith during the summer. The name "Grays" was adopted prior to the summer of 2005 by a vote of almost 2 to 1 in a nationwide poll. The Grays are based here in Kansas City, the location of FCA's Worldwide Headquarters. We are very pleased to have received permission from our friends and neighbors here in Kansas City at the Negro Leagues Museum, to honor one of the greatest Baseball teams of all time...the Homestead Grays. |
