January 16 - God’s Man

Scripture Lesson: Ephesians 2:8-10

Today is the birthday of St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujois. At the end of 2011, his eleventh in the big leagues, Pujois has amassed 442 HRs, been on nine All-Star teams, and won three NL MVP awards. For all the awards and prestige baseball has brought him, Pujois is interested in something more. Albert wants more than anything else to be known as God’s man. The most important thing in his life is not something on a baseball field, it is his relationship with Jesus Christ. Pujois said, “ This is a platform that He has given me so I can glorify Him and I can witness to other people. I make sure that I give 110% and do my best to honor Him”.

Paul reminds us in our Scripture Lesson today that salvation is something we could never earn, it is a free gift of grace and faith. I love what Paul says in verse 10, “ we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works”. In order to be men of God, we have to serve God by doing good works. If you play or coach the game, God has given to you the same platform to serve Him as Albert Pujois. Every good gift comes from Him, playing and coaching the greatest game is a gift from God. So the next time you have the opportunity to be God’s man, step up to the plate and serve Him on and off the field.
