June 20-Fathers’ Day

June 20: Fathers’ Day

Scripture Lesson: Ephesians 6:1-4

On this date in 2004, on Fathers’ Day with his dad in attendance, 34-year-old Ken Griffey Jr. blasted a 6th inning fastball over the right field wall at Busch Stadium for his 500th career home run. The Cincinnati center fielder became the 20th Major Leaguer to reach the milestone, and the sixth youngest.

We are called to honor our father and mother. Similarly, Paul instructs fathers not to exasperate their children but to bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Some of the greatest lessons I have learned came from my dad. Not only did he set a Christian example for me, but I was amazed at how smart my dad got when I graduated college. The first memories I have concerning baseball are with my dad. I have tried to pass along to my son not only a love of the Lord but also a love of the game. Today, take the opportunity to thank your dad for all he has done for you.

  1. What is a lesson you have learned from your dad?

  2. How do we honor our parents?

  3. Thank God today for dads who do it right.

Take the time to build a memory today with your dad. If you have children, also build a memory with them.
