June 3: Longest Home Run

Scripture Lesson: Luke 15:17-24

On this date in 1967, Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew hit the longest home run in the history of Metropolitan Stadium. Killebrew’s blast went 503 feet into the second deck in deep left center field. That stadium chair is now mounted high on a wall overlooking the flume ride in the Mall of America, which now stands on the site of the stadium. The chair is mounted in the exact spot the ball landed in the old stadium.

Today’s Scripture lesson is about the longest home run in Scripture. For the prodigal son ran all the way home from a foreign land after squandering his inheritance. His long home run ended with his father not only waiting for him, but also restoring him to full son ship once again. God is the father in the parable, and He is waiting for us to return home to Him. Just as the father in the parable, God wants to restore us to full fellowship with Him when we come home to Him. We need to repent from and confess our sins. We can find out something interesting, when we turn back to God, He is always there waiting for us! Oh, how He loves you and me!

  1. How did the son feel on his way home?

  2. How did he feel when his father greeted him?

  3. Are we lost or found with God today?

There have been some great long home runs in baseball history, but they all cannot compare to the long home run by the prodigal son. Isn’t it time for us to come home if we are away from Him and His will for our lives?

This is how winter looks from sttleliae? Ugly. It looks more like Blitzkrieged (could we use that as a verb?) Europe circa WWII.Winter is more beautiful and colourful at street level in Montreal, until the holiday lights come down and the city tries to save a few pennies by sending out cleaning crews only during regular working hours, no overtime. By the way have you seen the state of some sidewalks and we are only, what, two weeks into the weather? We'll shrug it off, call ourselves "tough" Montrealers, grin and bear it as part of living in this city, while the politicians get limoed around town to celebrate the season with champagne and slap each other on the backs. Lower middle class is a bitch.
