March 12: Power

Scripture Lesson: Psalm 68:32-35

Today is the birthday of former Houston Astro, Jimmy Wynn. Wynn was given the nickname, “The Toy Cannon” because of his tremendous power packed on such a small frame. At 5’9” and 170 lbs., Wynn could hit some monster shots. These included the longest home run ever at Cincinnati’s Crosley Field: on June 10, 1967, he hit a ball that cleared the 58 foot scoreboard in left-center field and bounced onto to Interstate 75. Wynn was also the first batter to hit a home run into the upper deck at the Astrodome. The seat where it landed was later reupholstered with a toy cannon design.

The Psalmist today calls us to remember and to praise God for His awesome power! He reminds us that God has power over the universe and gives power and strength to Israel. The power of God is to be praised, for there is no god like our God, and God still gives power today. Just look at a sunrise or watch the ocean as it rolls in to the shore. Feel the sun on your face and see the wonder of creation. God’s power brought all of this and much more into existence. Our God even has power over sin, death, and the grave: Jesus’ tomb is still empty today. Praise God for His wonderful power!

  1. Look around you and see examples of God’s power.

  2. How does God give His power and strength to us today?

  3. Thank Him for his amazing power right now.

The amazing power of God, experience it today!
