September 19-Death for Others

Scripture Lesson: Hebrews 2:9

On this date in 1939 September call-up Elmer Gedeon collects all three hits of his five game Major League career as a Washington Senator. Gedeon will be the first of two Major League players to be killed in World War II when his plane is shot down over France in 1944.

The writer of Hebrews is reminding us today that Jesus was crowned with glory and honor because he suffered death. Jesus died for mankind to take away our sins and mistakes. He put his life on the line and gladly gave it up to pay a price none of us could ever pay. It was His love for each of us that enabled Jesus to go to the cross for us.

1. Remember today the men and women of our Armed Forces and the sacrifice they make for our country.

2. Pray for them and their families right now.

3. Thank God for the gift of His son who died for our sins.

The men and women of our Armed forces often put their lives on the line for our nation and freedom. Jesus put His life on the line for our freedom from sin. Praise God for those who are willing to pay the ultimate price!
