Scripture Lesson: 1 Peter 2:10

On this date in 1913 in his Major League debut at Sportsman’s Park, southpaw Hal Schwenk pitches 11 innings giving up 12 hits, but earns a complete game victory beating the White Sox 5-4. The Browns rookie will never again appear in a big league game.

Peter reminds the people that once they were not a people, but now they are the people of God. Once they had not received mercy, but now they have received mercy that comes from God. God’s love provides citizenship in His Kingdom. In the verse before ours today, Peter reminds the church that it is a chosen people whose purpose is to praise God by living for Him. Through the love of God for each of us and the sacrifice of His Son and our Savior Jesus Christ, we are now a people united by their love for us!

1. How did you receive God’s mercy?

2. What does it meant to you to be a part of the people of God?

3. As you belong to God, what does He deserve from you?

God provided for us once to become His people for eternity! Praise be to Him!

I remember stairng at a picture of Christ on our dining room wall then going and sitting on the steps in the backyard asking Jesus to show up because I had a lot of questions. He didn't arrive physically and I remember thinking that wasn't because he didn't exist it just must be he was awfully busy right then ..6-7 years of age?
